Take the Fizz & Ships wine tasting world cruise

I AM delighted to announce the return of the Fizz & Ships nautically themed wine tasting after the event was postponed due to the covid outbreak.
The relaunch of this imaginary armchair from Liverpool, celebrating famous shipping lines and fine wines, with my former Post & Echo colleague Jane Clare, will be on Sat 23 March, at 7pm, at St Anne’s Church, Aigburth Road, Liverpool, to raise funds for its organ restoration.
The church has strong maritime links as the Willis organ’s panelling was presented by the famous Liverpool Brocklebank shipping family as a memorial to their son lost in the First World War.
Tickets are £25 per head for which you get five wines and a bowl of scouse made to Nanny Wakefield’s secret recipe. Non drinkers are welcome at £10 per head, including scouse.
Our imaginary world cruise starts and ends in Liverpool, mentally travelling aboard the city’s great shipping lines to sample a particular country’s wine at each port of call.
Jane will describe the wines (as outlined below) and I’ll provide the links with amusing (hopefully) anecdotes about the ships and people during Liverpool’s golden maritime age.
Interestingly, as the evening progresses it tends to get merrier and merrier.
The shipboard wine list presently is:
Harrison Line to Bordeaux (sparkling Cremant), Pacific Steam Navigation to Vigo (Spanish Albarino), Brocklebank Line to Buenos Aires (Argentinian Malbec), and Blue Funnel to Melbourne (Australian Pinot Noir).
Finally, Heidsieck champagne as served on White Star Line (including Titanic) (Charles Heidsieck was the original ‘Champagne Charlie’).
This is the ideal cruise for wine loving but queasy landlubbers – you won’t need your Kwells or Stugeron!
